League City, Texas is located in northwestern Galveston County, and began as a Karankawa Indian village. In 1873, George W. Butler became its first resident and the community was called Butlers Ranch or Clear Creek. In 1893, a man named J. C. League acquired much of the land, laid out a townsite, and provided for a school. Beginning as a farming community, our little township has now come to be known as League City. The local population remained small until the oil pipelines and the NASA facilities opened up, providing a stable economy, and jobs for everyone. The mild gulf climate and the Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD mushroomed the population from 19,000 residents in 1990, to 74,000 residents today. Planners and administrators have kept up with the tremendous growth in fine fashion, earning League City a spot as finalist in  . League City homes have kept pace with construction of new resort style, master planned communities featuring respected home builders such as Perry, Trendmaker, Coventry, and Plantation Homes. Money Magazines 2006 - 100 Best Place to Live. League City has all the amenities of a big town while still maintaining a small town feel. On Main Street, lined with 100 year old majestic oak trees, is the historical district, where you find quaint gift and antique shops, and a beautifully manicured little public park called Helens Garden. A dozen more public parks dot League City and there are 21 more homeowner parks too. It is the big city conveniences such as over 100 restaurants, two shopping malls, and the Clear Lake Regional Medical Center nearby.A northern boundary is the southern half of Clear Lake, so many League City homes have fabulous waterfront views. There are over 7,000 boats in fifteen marinas surrounding Clear Lake, making water sports and recreation popular hobbies with many residents. Birding enthusiasts love the vast array of migratory birds that stop by for a rest before moving on, and golfers have several choices where to tee-off with three golf courses in the area. Our temperate climate allows for golfing almost year-round.There are many more things to do and see such as take a day trip to Houston or Galveston beach, explore NASA and Johnson Space Center, stroll through the Armand Bayou Nature Center, or ride the roller coaster at Kemah Boardwalk and Waterfront.If you ultimately decide on one of the homes for sale in League City, the children will be attending the Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD). CCISD is a highly sought after school system and has earned an Exemplary Rating by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and parents regularly praise the high quality education their children receive.
